We'll Crown the Greatest Game of the Console Generation: Final Four
The past two days have been nothing short of dramatic. This past Monday, we celebrated the half-decade milestone of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X with a competition to determine the best first-party game of this console generation. You were given eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X exclusives to compete against each other, all heading towards a final showdown where the top game from each console would go head-to-head. There have been some incredibly close calls in the initial matchups, especially the extremely tight polls from the previous day. Now, it's time to crown the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles ahead of Thursday’s final battle.
PlayStation 5 Contenders
On the PS5 side, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Perhaps it's expected given that it took home the top prize at last year’s Game Awards, but its victory over God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. But to get to the finals, it'll need to defeat the MVP of the PlayStation 5 era: Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 had a smooth path to the final four, defeating Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another Insomniac game!) to secure a spot in the final four. Can Spidey topple a beloved PlayStation icon, or is he destined to become a chibi cameo in the next Astro Bot game?
The Xbox Series X Side
For Xbox Series X has been more exciting. Emerging victorious from a diverse lineup of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a big victory for the open-world driving game so far, demonstrating that a more specialized genre game earns to be on the same pedestal as classic platformers and cinematic action-adventure games. Its last roadblock on the way to the finals is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a fan favorite, defeating acclaimed titles like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Will it overcome a much bigger game from an established IP that's closely tied to the Xbox brand? If anyone can pull that off, it's probably Indy.
