Marnus Labuschagne Omitted from Australian ODI Team to Face Team India

Marnus Labuschagne has been dropped from the three-game ODI series against India, as high-performing Queensland colleague Matt Renshaw earning a unexpected call-up.

Performance Issues Lead to Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the one-day international team following scoring just one run in both of his innings during the recent series against South Africa in August. The right-hander has a top score of forty-seven in his most recent ten ODI batting appearances.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 ODIs and accumulated 1,871 ODI runs at an batting average of 34.64, but will now continue to press his claims a Test recall ahead of the Ashes beginning in Perth on 21 November.

Renshaw's Return and Other Squad Changes

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw also hit a century for the Bulls in the identical match against Tasmania.

Renshaw is in line to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after his last inclusion in an ODI squad in 2022.

Australia have selected a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the Ashes approaching, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-game T20 series due to a wrist injury sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 sides after scoring a hundred in the final game against New Zealand to secure a two-nil victory last week.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be rotation through the back end of the series as players get ready for the summer through domestic first-class matches,” selection chief George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the preparation for the T20 World Cup next year, however we are aiming to find equilibrium to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-match ODI series against India begins on 19 October in Perth, before the rivals play five T20s from 29 October.
